December 10, 1940

Written by Howard Lindsey and Russell Crouse
Adapted from"Life with Father " by Clarence Day, Jr. and "God and Father" by Clarence Day, Sr.

"Last night the Play Reading Group of the Gainesville Little Theatre met for the first time in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Matherly on West Boulevard, where Kenneth Skaggs, of the University of Florida English Department, entertained with an interesting and cleverly interpreted reading of the play "Life with Father" by Howard Lindsey and Russell Crouse. The play was adapted from the books "Life with Father " by Clarence Day, Jr. and "God and Father" by Clarence Day, Sr."
"The reading was well attended, more than 35 persons being present for this first of several reading which the Gainesville Little Theatre plans for this year."
"Mr. Skaggs is well known to Gainesville theatre lovers for his deft interpretation and reading of plays and those attending were charmed by the ease of transition, mobility of expression and subtlety and insight into the characters with which the reader interpreted the play. His portrayal and interpretation of the character of "father" was particularly fine."
"Following the reading those attending enjoyed refreshments."
"Mrs. E. S. Quade, second vice-president of the Gainesville Little Theatre, was in charge of the arrangements for the play reading club and worked out the details for this highly enjoyable meeting." ---Gainesville Daily Sun, December 11, 1940
