Based on the comedy by Moliere
Directed by Craig Hartley
Of the elements which make up comedy, the contradictions,
inconsistencies and excesses of human behavior provide some of the most
ageless subjects for the playwright's consideration. The success of Moliere's
comedies owes much to his concentration on universal human foibles. To
emphasize this generality, our production of one of his finest works is
set in pre-Watergate Washington D.C. The only point to be made by this
reach across the centuries is that the qualities which made Moliere's characters
accurate studies of people in the court and times of Louis XIV are still
present and identifiable in our own time. -- Craig Hartley, Director
