Norman Thayer, a retired professor and his wife Ethel,
have had a cottage on Golden Pond since the early days of their marriage.
Their daughter Chelsea, whom they haven't seen for years, feels she must
be present for Norman's eightieth birthday, forcing the family to renew
bonds of love and overcome friction they've felt for years. Matters are
complicated by the presence of Chelsea's 13-year-old soon to be stepson,
who develops the relationship with Norman that Chelsea always wanted.
